Description: This International Conference, co-organized by the Department of Communication, Media and Culture of Panteion University and the governmental watchdog Politikometro.gr, explores the critical challenges facing modern journalism. Taking place on May 5 and 6, 2026, at Panteion University , the event brings together leading academics, journalists, political representatives, and independent fact-checking organizations.

The core focus is the disruption caused by Artificial Intelligence and "Synthetic Media" (such as Deepfakes) on the news cycle and democratic institutions. Through a series of panels and practical workshops, the conference examines:

- The gap between political rhetoric and reality through data-driven fact-checking.

- The shift of power from traditional newsroom editors ("gatekeepers") to social media algorithms and content creators.

- The daily battle of newsrooms against breaking news disinformation.

- The institutional and legal threats to press freedom, including SLAPPs workplace insecurity.
