A free and independent press remains a foundation for peace and justice, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed said, highlighting the growing importance of credible journalism in an evolving digital landscape shaped by artificial intelligence.

Marking World Press Freedom Day, she stressed that credible reporting can help counter disinformation and foster greater understanding, while reaffirming that freedom of expression, the ethical use of technology, and the safety of journalists are essential for peaceful societies.
