Conference Programme - May 5th, 2022.

- Full day tour to Colonia del Sacramento.

Field Trip to Colonia del Sacramento, the first city founded in Uruguay by the Portuguese in 1680 and declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1995.

 

09:00 - Departure from the official conference hotels in Montevideo. Buses with guide on board, water and snacks. Reception in the Historic District by the authorities of the Municipality and the bilingual guides. Exact arrival point for bus parking: Odriozola near the city wall.

11:00 - Guided walking tour through the historic center of Colonia del Sacramento

12:00 - Lunch on your own at any of the many restaurants in the historic center (unless invited).

15:30 - Transfer to Plaza de Toros Real de San Carlos. Guided tour.

16:45 - Transfer from Plaza de Toros to Centro Cultural Bastión del Carmen (Rivadavia 223)

18:00 - 18:30 - Performance by the SODRE Folkloric Ballet Schools at the Bastión del Carmen Cultural Center (Rivadavia 223).

18:40 - 20:40 -Transfer by bus to the official Conference hotels in Montevideo.

 

 

Note:  Please bring in comfortable walking shoes as old quarter has stoned streets as well as a warm coat for the evening

Strengthening democracy and media freedom and pluralism in Europe.

  While there were hundreds of alerts across Europe in 2021, there were also positive developments that were welcomed by media freedom actors . In the beginning of the year, the European Commission announced the establishment of an Expert group against SLAPPs with a specific mission to advise the Commission on matters related to fighting SLAPPs or supporting the journalists and media outlets that were targeted by them. ECPMF's legal advisor Flutura Kusari is also a part of this group and the EC is expected to propose legislative and non-legislative measures to counter SLAPPs.  The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the details of a new Media Freedom Act during her annual State of the Union speech on 15 September.   On World Press Freedom Day 2023 , UNESCO will organize a special  anniversary event  at UN headquarters in New York, marking the 30 years since the UN General Assembly’s decision proclaiming an international day for press freedom . On this occasion, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media will organise the following side events during the anniversary edition of World Press Freedom Day at the UN Headquarters and the Vance Center at New York Bar Association.
